How to Create a Social Media Content Calendar

FILED IN: Social Media

If you lack organization with your social media, chances are you need a content calendar. In its most straightforward understanding, a content calendar is a calendar of all your social media posts. It is a tool to help you plan upcoming posts, keep track of previous posts, and maximize your marketing efforts.

Your calendar is the perfect way to ensure that your content is engaging, relevant, and consistent, which is crucial to growing your wedding business.

Creating a content calendar is essential for any business that uses social media for marketing, and in today’s journal, I’ll be sharing four tips to help you get started.

Define your goal

Before creating your content calendar, you have to define your marketing goals. For most wedding creatives, a marketing goal can fall into three common categories: Increase brand awareness, boost engagement, or generate leads. Identifying a specific goal can help you create a clear strategy and social media content plan. Additionally, taking the time to map out your content goals can help you when analyzing and measuring your progress.

Audit your Platforms

Your content calendar is most effective when you have referred back to your analytics for the previous month. Which could be your analytics for Instagram, blogs, Facebook, or any other platform you’re on. Your analytics can help you identify the high-performance and low-performance posts that are essential to consider when creating content relevant to your audience. When looking at your analytics, take notes of the details of your post so you can know what to continue for future content.

Create your calendar and posting frequency.

Once you’ve analyzed your goals and audited your platforms, consider how often you want to show up. I always say that consistency is the key to success on social media, and consistency looks different for every platform. It’s always best to research how often you should post and what works best for your goals. If you’re on Instagram, for instance, your analytics will be the perfect place to gain insight into what days and times are more active for your audience, which can help you figure out when to post for the highest engagement.

Schedule your content

One of the best ways to save time when creating a social media content calendar is to use a scheduling platform. A scheduling platform is a great way to house your content, plan out your captions, schedule your posts ahead of time, and even automate them, so they go out on a specific time and date. There are so many platforms to choose from, such as Planoly, Hootsuite, and Asana, and some even offer content calendar templates you can utilize. I advise you to find the tool you are most comfortable with and will encourage you to stay consistent with your posting schedule.

Once you have a clear idea of your content goals, it’s time to create your content calendar. Your calendar will help you plan and organize your social media posts efficiently to get the most out of your content.
